If you like Harry/Snape and (like me!) LOVE mpreg, then check out the great gift I received for [livejournal.com profile] snarry_holidays: Mirror Image. Thank you, mysterious artist!

I'm *almost* caught up with Merlin (but still haven't watched the most recent episode). After Elton's How gay is Merlin? freaked me out for a moment with: (And for all you Gwen-bashers out there — you'll be happy to know she meets a bad end.) I was all ready to go WHAT NOOOO, but it turns out (from another freakee on [livejournal.com profile] merlinxarthur) that the remark was somehow Torchwood-related. There's such a heavy onslaught of fic that Merlin's presence on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide looks increasingly funny. I've barely read anything so far, sticking mainly with authors I trust like [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden (Damsel in Distress, Misrule, Past Imperfect), [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster (The Chatter of Britain) and [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock (August and Three Castles 1 and 2). I'm become so wary and weird about trying unfamiliar (to me) authors. It's no wonder I have such a struggle with fandom's current anonyfest culture. I'm just not very adventurous, and I like to know what I'm in for before I launch into something. I've hardly read *anything* from [livejournal.com profile] snarry_holidays, which is pretty lax of me considering I'm a participant. Posting seems to have finished now so I asume a reveal will be up soon, but I really need to slave on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide instead of attempting any sort of catch-up. I've reviewed the Yuletide source material, which has led to much reviewing of *related* material, which has led to...well, not a lot of work done at all, but many pleasant hours whiled away. At least I'm house-sitting soon, which will give me some interruption- (and guilt-) free time.

Given an emotional standing ovation at a ceremony in Eindhoven, Van den Hoogenband kept to his promise of ending his career on December 7.

"I competed for the last time in Beijing, but I didn't want to leave you all before saying goodbye and, above all, thank you," Van den Hoogenband said.

The arrival of the retired Thorpe at the ceremony was a major surprise.

Thorpe said he "didn't want to miss such an important moment in Pieter's life".

And better yet: ‘When I saw him, I thought ‘I am not going to cry.’

Oh, swimmy boys.

I'm become so wary and weird about trying unfamiliar (to me) authors.

I'm usually wary too, but I've come out of my shell a bit for the Merlin fandom and found some pleasant surprises. I recommend checking out authors such as [livejournal.com profile] moonythestrals, [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius, and [livejournal.com profile] janne_d. There are stories I've liked that have been written by other authors, but I've liked almost everything written by these three.

You might also want to try the fic award nominations. Not comprehensive and certainly not foolproof, but better odds.

Thank you - I like being led to any Merlin reading place that is the opposite of astray!

You should know that thisissirius has written only angst so far. Lovely angst, but fairly heart-wrenching all the way, except for 'prima inter pares'.

moonythestrals is the almost exact opposite.

Merlin links I like. Includes very many Merlin/Arthur stories, Morgana/Gwen, rps, a single gen story and some meta.

I'm still wondering when some OT4 will turn up. I need teamfic!

I should clarify that I mean 'prima inter pares' is not so angsty, not that it's not good.

But yes. It will be a happy day I create the tag morgana/gwen/merlin/arthur!

I've just started trying to get caught up on all of Merlin too (I love it to bitty bits), but I've been relying on my flist to recommend their favourite fics.

Merlin is a truly adorable and terrible show. It's sort of like Robin Hood, except that it causes me no pain whatsoever!

I watched 1x04 last night and there was Merlin writhing sweatily on a bed while yelling at Arthur to go faster and harder and well, what more can fandom or I want.

I need icons.

Okay, would Thorpie be wearing Pieter on his speedos, or the other way around? This is the question now plaguing me.
